interested in 1st edition D&D?
I was recently considering the changes they've made in 4th edition D&D -- let's face it: they dumbed it down to the point of idiocy. I can see where they were coming from, given how fucking bloated D&D3.5 was, but come on, they removed a lot of the shit that made it cool. you can't even pretend you had some control over your character's abilities anymore.
so like, 3.5 kinda sucks, too, because there're so damn many things you can do/be/whatever, and so many obscure rules, errata, etc. also I don't have the money to buy all those friggin' books.
so this lead me to think, if we're gonna go with an earlier edition, why not just do it oldschool; why not just go back to the original: 1st edition advanced dungeons & dragons. that's right, folks! we're talking about illusionists as a totally separate class from wizards, and monks that can attain a title called Grand Master of Flowers! YOU HEARD ME!! it's got motherfucking THAC0, bitches!
