End of Year 8 of the Addergoole School
"You'll be fine, Kees." Yngvi kissed his boyfriend's forehead gently. "You're not exactly a weakling, and, besides," he grinned ferally, "I'll come back for random visitations, so they can have the Fear of Vi in their hearts."
He was amused at the way that made the younger boy squirm. "I'll like seeing you," Kees admitted. "But you don't have to be my defense forever."
"I kind of like being the big, strong one," he rumbled happily, squeezing Kees into a hug. "And I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you, too, Vi. Wish I was older."
"I'm glad you're not. Not that I won't miss you," he added hurriedly. The first had slipped out of an early place in his mind, a bad memory. "But I wasn't big enough to protect you, my first year here."
Kees smiled mischievously. "I see how it is. You just want to go off to college, leave me behind to raise the children..."
"Ha. Believe me, my little bird, if I could have had children with you, I would have. You would make an adorable mother."
"We still could, you know. We'd just need a womb."
Yngvi nodded slowly. They'd talked about this before, but only in passing, only sideways. Now, now with him leaving... it seemed like everything was coming to a head.
"I promise," he murmured, "if you give it a solid try this year, and can't find anyone to carry your second, can't find anyone that you can bear to be the mother of your child, then I will come back, and do what needs to be done. I know it's possible, of course." He kissed Kess, putting off for a moment the thoughts of providing Regine with yet another child. "Ayla and Io did it. But you should try to find a girl."
"I don't want a girl, Vi. I only want you."
He smiled sadly down at the smaller boy. "I know, lovely boy. And I only want you." But times, as he well knew, changed, and so did hearts. A year apart could change everything. "We'll see what the year brings, shall we?"
