That's ... seriously maladaptive. How does a genetic line like that survive at all? Inasmuch as genetics apply, admittedly, but I would have expected a little common sense from magic -- which this class totally fails at.

Hell of a way to go. There are lots of variations on having one's own body betray one, but most of them aren't so violent or unpredictable.
