The $35-level continuation story from the November Giraffe Call.

This is in the Reiassan Setting, which has a landing page here (and on LJ). It comes after everything else I've written in timeline for Rin & Girey, and directly after/during Mother Knows... ( LJ) and Encountering Dad ( LJ)

Love the semi-parallel conversations and the additional hints at the setting.

Parents a bit single-minded? And unsubtle?

I want to more of what's behind "that doesn't mean quite what I think you think it does, that band" and "but I can tell you what she said she was looking for. If you think it will help." And I'm rather curious about Gar, now. Presumably Ima did not bring him home as a captive if she's spent her life in the palace complex ...

The "what she said she was looking for" I can reasonably hope is within the scope of this story -- that might be a useful conversation for Girey, to think about how he wants his situation to fall out and how he might influence it towards what he wants. (That means making up his mind, though -- and I don't think he even has a good grip on what the range of options is yet? Talking to someone local other than Rin might help him on that front, too.) The wristband could go either way. Gar's backstory might be rather a long shot to hope for, at least in this arc, unless it's thematically relevant. :)

Mmm, but I'll probably get to Gar eventually. :-)

Oh but I do like this setting, even with all of its very complex politics. THe tone of these conversations is just spot on. I can hear the "parent tones" in their voices...
