[157] thoughts on SPLICE and sundry items
happy belated birthday to maevemist, humbuggirl and emerald_embers!
last night, i watched splice with chez_amanda and
ava. to commemorate the occasion, i even made a someecard! [thanks to chez_amanda for saying this last night during the film!]
i'm incredibly glad i'd read major spoilers beforehand and KNEW i'd be watching something with triggery content, because otherwise it would've been a DISASTUH. i'm going to summarise the movie underneath the lj-cut. there will obviously be spoilers and again, please keep in mind the content may be triggery to some [contains inter-species incest, abuse, rape, forced pregnancy, genderswitch, bondage, voyeurism, daddy issues, medical play].
adrien brody = clive, sarah polley = elsa.
- horrible scientist #1 aka elsa decides to create hybrid life and treat it like a pet, lock it up, alternately mistreat it and coddle it when the mood strikes [b/c she had a fucked up childhood herself].
- alien child is always locked up, often transported from place to place in boxes, has no companions except for the few visits from elsa and her bf clive, aka horrible scientist #2.
- alien grows rapidly and is a mary sue of sorts in the sense that it is attractive, intelligent, can breathe underwater, has wings and can fly, powerful kangaroo-style legs that allow it to jump great distances and run fast, and also a prehensile tail with a stinger attached, woo!
- elsa then mutilates alien child after it tries to kill her and break free.
- clive rescues alien, becomes attracted to it b/c it has his gf's dna, and eventually fucks it and gets caught.
- alien then mutates and changes gender into a male, and rapes its mother i.e. elsa, and kills clive.
- elsa receives hush money from her boss, is now pregnant with her alien child's baby, and decides to have it.
and there you have it, ladies & gents. that was splice.

3) livejournal introduces nifty "repost" feature: the most recent lj release has a number of interesting items, but the "repost" feature is definitely my favourite! now you can add this button to your entries, and people on your flist can easily repost them to their journal with one click, along with a link to your original post. i can see this feature coming in handy for signal-boosting purposes and memes - i already used it in yesterday's racefail awareness post
4) first trailer of game of thrones: OMG SO EXCITED. WINTER IS COMING, BITCHES.
5) star wars replica light sabre burns retina, causes cancer: wtf is this?! HOLY COW. this company will ship anywhere - PLEASE DO NOT BUY.
6) amazing statue of king kong made entirely from coat hangers!: make sure to click on image 3 of 7 in the scrollbar to look at it! it's priced at £265,000.
7) the adjustment bureau trailer: starring matt damon, emily blunt, daniel dae kim and a few others. based on a short story by philip k. dick.
