why so cold, toronto? it's JULY! then again, you KNOW you're canadian when it's 12°C outside and you still insist on wearing a summer dress
i did it yesterday, and again today, heh. who else loves the maxi dresses that are so popular this season? i'm wearing one today and i feel like a complete princess b/c the garment's so flowy, and i always have to hold up one side so that i don't trip while walking or going up/down stairs
btw why are some clients such asshats? right as i got into work, i had to deal with a jerkface who kept arguing with me, and wouldn't listen to my extremely simple instructions. stop thinking you're our only priority. in fact, shut the fuck up and just listen to me so that we can BOTH conserve our energy and time. seriously, the nerve of some idiots. the rest of our team's back from the conference in orlando today which means i'll be talking to an entire host of new and returning dumbasses. and will have to be pleasant and unaffected by their stupidity. what joy.
in more pleasant news though, GUESS WHO'S WATCHING HALF-BLOOD PRINCE IN 13.5 HOURS? me me me! i'm catching a midnight screening with
ava, woot! i'm going to be a complete zombie tomorrow since i have a full day of work and further wedding festivities to look forward to, so i'm hoping the movie's worth my efforts
i guess i'll have to pen a review tomorrow as well, eh?
speaking of which, i have another big batch of recs!
FIC RECS
1)
soaring ever higher [but i flew too high] by
waterofthemoon : j2. man, i had this bookmarked right when it was posted after asylum, but for some reason didn't get around to reading until now. it's angsty and has this feeling of suspension, of limbo - which is absolutely perfect given the subject matter. it ends so sweetly too, making me want to read it over and over again with my heart in my throat.
2)
anything more than all of this by
seventhpage : j2. another fic i somehow forgot to rec. this one's remarkable not for the angst [of which there is plenty, and y'know how much i adore that stuff], but b/c of the almost lyrical feel to the way the narration progresses. there's a rhythm to it, a cadence, a tension that doesn't break, and it definitely adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the story.
3)
big damn anti-hero by
arlad : j2 au. okay, so
arlad has totally become one of my fave authors in the fandom. y'know why? b/c she manages to write these awesome stories that reel you in, keep you engaged, make you laugh and sigh, and convey the emotions of the characters really well - regardless of whether it's an epic big bang fic or a short ficlet that's less than 2000 words long [which is the case here]. so if you want to read a high school fic featuring shy!jensen and a curious!jared who manage to make me feel wistful for my own high school days, this is for you.
4)
manip-you-lation by
heartdrawndream : j2. this drabble is cracky and all sorts of fun. jared discovers a manip and shares it with jensen. hilarity ensues. i never get tired of this plot, hee.
5)
breakfast in bed [and other nice things] by
pignapoke : j2. i was off to bed on sunday night when i saw this, and decided to quickly read it before catching some z's. what a great idea, since it was the best way to end the weekend. this is an adorable schmoopy fic about a concerned!jensen taking care of a fussy and very sick!jared. SO FREAKING CUTE, ZOMG. i want jensen to come take care of ME. or even have a cutesy jared to take care of, heh.
6)
knack by
dreamlittleyo : wincest. 170 words. quick and dirty. i mean it.
7)
to love at all is vulnerable by
bemycasualty : wincest. smutlet w/ breathplay and angsty brothers who can't get enough of each other no matter how hard they try to deny it. om nom nom!
from
spn_j2_bigbang:
1)
the last smile i fake by
quantrail : j2 au. this story has a cute movie-like premise, pining!jensen, oblivious!jared, popular!sandy and best of all - kickass!danneel [among a host of other minor characters]. i would've liked certain parts to be more fleshed out, especially since the build-up is quite nice [sorry but i have to be ambiguous so that i don't spoil you] but overall, it's a quick fun read with a happy ending.
2)
somebody made you smile into their lens by
the_milk_way : j2 au. another story with an interesting premise - this time with photographer!jensen and historian!jared. definitely liked reading about the boys in these alternate professions. i found the behaviour displayed by the characters to be a little illogical in some parts, and certain sections more ambiguous than they needed to be, but i enjoyed how the story shifted from london to athens to bangkok etc, since it not only added to the sense of adventure, but also cemented the theme of serendipity that's quite central to the plot.
the art to this fic was created by
elethoniel and is rather lovely. most of you know about my passion for polaroids, and since they feature heavily in the artwork here, i obviously liked them very much.
