...when someone's constant laughter is unforgivably irritating. Everyone in my department seems to be going through the "Roommate Complex," wherein we have been working too long beside these people that everything they do, down to their voices and laughs, is annoying to have to listen to day after day.
We are at the point where we stick our headphones in our ears and crank up the volume. Or, for me, I am actually putting my earbuds in my ears (usually I dangle them in front of my ears to try to preserve my hearing). *sob* Our old area was so quiet I despaired when I brought a crunchy snack because it would be too loud for my neighbors!
We need new seating arrangements. Or vacations? Or maybe two days off each week? Or even just less overtime each day? Asking them to tone it down will NOT work. It's like trying to keep an explosion from going off.
Ugh, this happened back when I was a temp and working in this area of the 12th floor. I remember an R. DeBruzzi whose voice was driving me to distraction every time he answered a phone call because all I heard all day was his voice. So maybe the problem is just being in this work environment where our new "teammates" chatter more than they work.
Yes, I am still looking for new positions each day. I never knew how good we had it back under our old boss and placement. *sigh*
It is curious, however--the noise never bothered me at my old job at Wells Fargo or Rainbow Foods. There was so much chatter and background noise at those places that when I tried to listen to my iPod at Wells Fargo, I actually could barely hear it even when the earbuds were in my ears. I think here, the work we do conflicts with the environment--our work is solitary and talking actually disrupts it. Those other places, you could talk and work just fine. Or else it is just the overtime and six/seven days a week that is taking its toll on us. Or the fact that we are on this overtime, unable to do our own work, and these "teammates" waste what probably adds up to two hours each day just chatting, when they could be doing more apps. Argh, we are twice to three times as fast as they are. Wonder why?
Frustrating.
