(no subject)
So over the weekend, I have been thinking about things on and off. About this whole FA thing, and Kink and Furry in general. Perro wrote a good blurb about it in his journal http://perro.livejournal.com/470637.html and I feel likei need to add something as well.
I know this might sound like an old curmudgeon ramble (and, well, it is) but, back in the day when furries weren't so common we all had to work really hard at finding each other, inventing gatherings and places to hang out just so we could be around our own kind. The internet has really changed things in the past 10 years, and our numbers grow and its an amazing thing. When someone asked me what furry was, my answer was pretty simple. "Were a group of people that will accept you no matter who you are" and that made me feel really good. Now that were slightly higher on the social totem pole than the treckie guy that dresses up as the klingon, it appears that "we" can now judge who is furry, and who isnt. this is bullshit. furry is waaaay bigger than a group of people that run a few websites.
About 6 or 7 years ago when a bunch of furries were starting to explore the kink/pup world, quite a number of you have plunged whole heartedly into that community (my self included) and at first, those established circles were pretty resistant to that movement. There were even some community websites that out right banned anything furry, or furry related. There were a small hand full of furries THAT WENT TO BAT FOR THE FANDOM, and after some time we were aloud back on those sites and grew to be accepted and even loved by that community.
I AM PERSONALLY HUMILIATED by the very idea that we as furries would even begin to sensor something, let alone attempt to exclude a whole community that has embraced us so whole heartedly. The problem with censorship is that it is subjective. Who gets to decide whats ok, and whats not? I mean, we ALL are into some weird stuff. Weather you like to dress up in a rubber dog suit, diapers, pajamas, fursuits, roll around with tentacles, or even think your a kid. There is a place for you here, somewhere in the fandom. That doesn't mean that i want to see you poop on your mate and hit him with a tennis racket while your jerking it, and perhaps we can do a better job of segregating the communities so we all can see what were interested in. BUT CENSORSHIP IS WRONG. Where does it stop? are K9 wangs with knots KINKY? should we ban that to? How about tickling? thats pretty kinky to the straight world.
So, if i had to sum this up. I would encourage folks that are pulling artwork, photos, and profiles to think about the reason why you started your websites in the first place. Because you had no place to go, no one that would allow us to put our perverted and crazy murrpurrs on the web. Now, were just as bad. Kink is a HUGE part of the fandom, and its here to stay. I would simply suggest that there is a compromise to be reached, and to please Please, remember what a great feeling it is to be accepted for who you are.
