I thought I should get this posted before the new episode tomorrow night drives everything I've been thinking about this week from my head.
I like seeing all the details they work into the show- especially the the ones we aren't really supposed to see. For example, Sam's newspaper clippings last week.
In the article it says:
Several new categories were added to the competition including Dried Flower Arranging (Beginner to Advanced), Paper Mache for the Blind, and Crafts made into the Likeness of Condoliza [sic] Rice, with extra points awarded to those who used actual rice grains as a craft medium. The surprise double win by Renee Van Allen in the Traditional Pottery category, was a first for the Craft Fair, as rules state no one person my double enter. As [sic] exception was made for Mrs. Van Allen.
Do you recognize the ad in the bottom left corner?
It was on Glen's T-Shirt in Heart :-P
Now some meta:
On Ruby:
I think she's still playing both the boys. She's telling them both exactly what they want to hear. She tells Sam she can help Dean and tells Dean there's no way out. Who can tell what the real truth is? I did notice a distinct difference in the way she approaches each of them, which was interesting since this was her first interaction with Dean. When talking to Sam, Ruby is harsh and forceful. You know, kinda like Dean. On the other hand, when she talks to Dean, she's emotional and meek, like Sam. I think by putting the two into roles they are comfortable with, she is manipulating them to unconsciously believe she's telling them the truth. I think her statements about demons having been human are true, since it seems to fit with the overall themes of the show, where everything evil that they hunt was human at one point. I think it will be a while before we find out how much of the other information she was spouting is true or not. (And I definitely do not think that they were trying to show Ruby has a soft gooey center. She's a conniving, manipulative demon who will do or say anything to get what she wants.)
On hunting the witches:
I've read several reviews where people had issues with the boys hunting the witches or with the way the witches were portrayed in general. I didn't have a problem with how the women were shown. Sam's determination to kill them threw me, but it threw Dean as well. His "Burn, witch, burn" comment seemed highly incredulous to me. He was trying to be funny while covering how surprised (and maybe worried) he was to hear Sam come to that conclusion so quickly. It even comes up again when the boys are in the hotel room, with Dean asking if Sam is feeling ok and further explaining his expectation of Sam worrying over hunting humans.
On why Dean was alone outside at the end (for
queeberquabbler ):
At coffee Saturday, Jen was telling us there was some discussion on why Dean was outside at the end of the episode. Here are some shots that I think show pretty well what was going on. Dean was getting two cans of pop from the pop machine outside the office.
Dean is walking away from
the vending machine with
something in his hand.
When he comes closer and the
lights start to flicker, you can see
that he actually has two things
in his left hand when he takes
one with his right.
Then he puts them in his pockets. Later you can see that his pockets are bulging some with the cans.
I cannot wait until tomorrow night's episode!
