Doh!

So I was greeted by a lovely surprise when I got home last night. My state income tax return finally arrived. They had the wrong address and I finally got around to calling about it a few weeks ago. Anyway, I was excited because the $575 finally puts me above water again. Combined with the pay check I was getting today, I can finally catch up on my bills and take care of some necessities.

Like fixing my brakes. That sound of metal grinding for the past week couldn't be a good thing. haha I hate when you are faced with a dilemma such as hearing that the breaks need immediate replacing, yet being broke until you get payed a week later. You have to get to work to make the money to pay for them, right? So I was afraid I had ruined my rotors. I took it into the dealership near work today so that they could just shuttle me back. They called after lunch and told me that they were able to save th e rotors and it would only end up costing me $250 with an oil change included. I was stoked. Until they called back 10 minutes later telling me he had read the mechanics notes wrong and the rotors were in fact beyond repair. So that doubled the price and to make it worse, he tells me they didn't have the parts in stock so they would have to keep the car over night. Uhhh, how am I supposed to get home and back to work exactly?

So I was able to find a ride home with a coworker who doesn't live too far away, but I had to leave work early because he has an earlier shift. He wasn;t going to be able to give me a ride in the next day so I was trying to figure it out. My lovely girlfriend already has to take her brother in before she goes to work, so she had no time. I had resided to the idea of just taking the green line into work if I could find a ride to the station. In any case, this was what I was trying to figure out on the way home.

Right before we hit the exit, I get a phone call form the dealership telling me my car is ready to be picked up, but I need to pick it up by the time they close at 6:00. It was 5:20. I was already at my damn exit! Doh! Apparently they sent a courier to pick up the parts from another dealership, yet neglected to inform me. Stupid bastards. So we headed back to get my car and made it by 6:00 on the nose.

So the good news is that I have my car and don't need to worry about getting a ride in tomorrow. And of course, my car is happier and sounds way more pleasent with it's brand new shiny brakes.

The bad news is bye bye tax return. Oh well, at least I was able to afford it.
