1. Hooman Majd, The Ayatollah Begs To Differ: The Paradox of Modern Iran
2. John Ajvide Lindquist, Let the Right One In (best antidote to Twilight)
3. Sharon Salzberg, Faith (non-fiction, Buddhism)
4. Terry Pratchett, Unseen Academicals (Discworld; despite being about something I really don't care about, namely sports and football, it was really quite good.)
5. Bill Bryson, Shakespeare: The World as Stage
6. Scott Westerfield, Leviathan (fiction, steampunk, young adult; I had no idea this book was supposed to be the first in the series, so I was quite confused when it didn't really end. For a moment I thought I had missed something or I was supposed to 'get it' based on my general knowledge of World War I.)
7. Brandon Sanderson, Well of Ascension (fiction, fantasy, sequel to Mistborn; the magic system is neat, but something about his world is just... off).
8. Charles Stross, Wireless (fiction, sci-fi, short stories, really good).
9. Gail Carriger, Soulless (fiction, steampunk, pretty silly, but in a good way).
10. Richard Rhodes, Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb
11. James Beard, Beard on Food (it's quite amazing -- despite being a collection of newspaper articles from 1974 and earlier, very little of this book is actually out-of-date)
