I spent four hours on Saturday cleaning the apartment. I vacuumed in places that have not been vacuumed since we moved in. Dust bunnies in some corners of the bedroom were bigger and fuzzier than Boris. After this cleaning frenzy, I literally felt as if I went to the gym and spent four hours running at the highest setting on the treadmill. All this fuss is because my parents are arriving on Thursday night. They will stay over the weekend, probably heading back to Canadistan on Monday. We are going out for dinner on Saturday night to celebrate mom's birthday.

I also reviewed all the kanji cards from the 'completed' pile, learned some vocab lists, played some Fable II (I am now so good, I have a halo, and my dog is dazzling white) and Guitar Hero, watched some Torchwood, and finished Harold Varmus's book. The third part of the book dealt with stem cell research, global health, and publishing practices in science. I loved this book. It's an extremely clear and interesting read.

I started reading House of Wits: An Intimate Portrait of the James Family by Paul Fisher. It will no doubt give me dislocated wrists (it's a 800-page hardback, printed on good heavy paper), but I cannot put it down. I have even made an exception to my 'do not bring huge hardcover books on the subway' rule. I am not an expert on either William or Henry James, but I am really enjoying this fascinating account of their family life and experiences that shaped their personalities and their writing.
