MIDNIGHT, 10/1--JavieR, Vampkat, Wyntre Mysteria, Brass Tactics & more!
This Saturday is the first one in October, and you know what that means--Midnight will be starting its annual countdown to our Halloween Party (October 29!). To kick off the year's most gothic month, we've booked DJs JavieR, Vampkat, and Wyntre Mysteria. Look for Brass Tactics in the vendor corner, super drink specials at the bar, giveaways, and more!
IN THE DJ BOOTH
Thanks again to everyone who helped make last Saturday's alternative '80s bash such a huge success! This week our DJs will be spinning a mix of synthpop, EBM, old school goth/industrial, etc.:
* JavieR (http://members.cox.net/hislordshipjavier) started his DJ career on college radio and in the Boston club scene back in the 1990s. When he moved to Washington in 2005, we were pleased to offer him one of his first local gigs and, later, a residency. Well known for his nostalgic sets, he's just as adept at playing some of the newest, most danceable music. JavieR has promised, btw, to bring along his special lighting.
* Vampkat is one of the new generation of gothic/industrial DJs that Midnight has helped to train and introduce to the local scene. Now a "regular guest" DJ for us and always one of the club's most enthusiastic dancers, she's request friendly and can definitely be counted on to spin some of your favorite hits, both old and new.
* Wyntre Mysteria specializes in sets composed of old school and newer goth/deathrock music from bands such as Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, The Cemetary Girlz, Clan of Xymox, Rosetta Stone, and more. In addition to filling guest DJ spots in the D.C./Baltimore area, he runs the Dark Transmissions website (http://www.darktransmissions.webs.com) and a bi-weekly podcast, Skeletal Kiss.
OCTOBER DRINK DEALS
On October 1 The Meeting Place will again offer its popular two-for-one special from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. Buy one qualifying drink at the full/regular price during that hour, and you're entitled to another of the same free any time prior to last call (around 2:45 a.m.).
Afterwards, from 10:00 until close, TMP's other bargains kick in. You can now order any "call brand" cocktail (think Johnny, Jim, Jack, Ciroc, Captain, etc.) for just $7.00, beers (ALL of 'em--domestic & imported, bottled & draft) or "rail drinks" for $5.00, and lemon drop shots for only $3.00. Those prices include the tax!
Hungry? TMP serves its full menu until about 1:30 a.m. Select something from the appetizer list and you'll save 20% off the price of that item.
BRASS TACTICS WILL VEND
Over in the usual vendors corner you'll find Brass Tactics, which sells "jewelry from a steampunk universe: a Victorian era filled with war-zeppelins, mad scientists and bomb-throwing black lanternists." Each of its jewelry items is made "using parts from antique machines." Be sure to stop by BT's tables and look over its unique merchandise!
THE PARTY ALSO INCLUDES...
* FREE PRIZES IN THE DRAWING -- Track down the Midnight literature table when you arrive, fill out one of the drawing slips, and drop it into the nearby cauldron. On the 1st you could win CDs from 00tz 00tz (http://www.myspace.com/00tz00tz) or Red This Ever (http://www.myspace.com/redthisever), a DVD, or a $10.00 food coupon.

* GET WELL SOON DJ SOLARIES -- For those who haven't already heard, DJ Solaries was "robbed and badly beaten" (her words) earlier this week. We expect her to be sufficiently recovered to spin and celebrate her b'day at Midnight on October 8, however.
* STREET TEAM MEMBERS WANTED -- Many thanks to those of you who have already volunteered to help spread the good word about Midnight this fall. We could still use additional people to help work both the college campuses (don't forget that Midnight is 18+) and Renn Faire. If you're interested, don't "reply" here. * TEA PARTY ZOMBIES? -- We're told that a New York-based company just released a non-PC video game entitled "Tea Party Zombies Must Die"--reportedly featuring Beck, Gingrich, Bachmann, Palin, etc. They star as the undead critters rather than potential victims. That's lucky, since it would be a shame to see poor zombies go hungry...
