Why I enjoy Psychology class
prelude: okay so we are discussing developement and today we got to Freud's Psychosexual developement theory. And all I could think was gee....I would love to see this in a fanfic. Gosh I would laugh so hard.
1st stage: ORAL STAGE
-From birth to two years of age.
-Pleasure is received from the mouth
-Infants learn that sucking brings pleasurable results such as food and drinks.
-People who become fixated in this stage will either be clingy in life or will be orally fixated.
2nd stage: ANAL STAGE
-From two years to four years of age(toddler years)
-Potty training and such
-People who become fixated in this stage are either anal retentive or anal expulsive.
3rd stage: PHALLIC STAGE
-Preschool years
-Children gain an Oedipus complex
-Boys learn to pleasure themselves from their penis.
-Boys relieve that girls do not have a penis and fear that the penis was cut off and will have castration anxiety. They fear their father cause they believe he is the one who castrated the girl.
-Girls learn that they do not have a penis and therefore do not learn the same fear as boys. Instead they develop penis envy.
-Or girls may become neurotic females and may resort to "having a career or....wearing pants!"
-Fixation in girls will cause feelings of inferiority.
-Fixation in boys will leave them feeling as if they have something to prove.
4th stage: LATENCY
-First 6 years of school.
-Libido quiets enough for children to concentrate on learning.
5th stage: GENITAL STAGE
-Puberty through adulthood.
-People become fixated on the genitals of the opposite sex.
-Libido resurfaces.
