Saturday Evening, Room 229

Oct 14, 2006 19:14

Edward actually crawled out of bed for the first time in what seemed like a week and fiddled with a box of stuff that Winry had sent him. Assembled they turned out to be minature cars that, with some improvisation, looked like minature racecars. He then spent the next twenty minutes amusing himself by sending the car into the walls, bed-posts, and ( Read more... )

Shawn wandered back in to the room after his visit to Caritas and raised an eyebrow at Ed's activities. "Whatcha up to?"

Ed pointed to the cars on the ground. There were three altogether, although the third was only half-put together. "I got a box," he said. "And there was stuff in it."

"Mystery box?" Shawn nodded in approval. "Nice," he added going to flop down on his bed.

"I never get mail," Edward said, nearly bouncing in place on his bed. "This is fun!"

"Not exactly weighed down with offerings from the postal service myself," Shawn commented leaning over from his place on the bed to grab a book from the floor. "You're actually putting them together yourself, huh? You must be way better than me at figuring out mechanical things. I would suck at that."

Edward shrugged... in all honesty he had just plugged things together in the hopes that things had worked. "I'm not very good with actual hands-on mechanical work," he said. "I just kind of jiggled it until it worked."

"Nice logic you've got there," Shawn said chuckling as he found his page in the book'. "They look like they're going together okay as far as I can see. Bonus points for the fact the method works."

Edward smirked just as he slammed the car into the corner of the desk, cracking the outer casing. "Aw, DAMN!" He chucked the controller at it, hoping to score another hit, but the controller just bounced off the desk and slid under it. "Well, that was a new record. Twenty-five minutes before I broke it again."

Shawn leaned off to the side of his bed so he could see what damage had been done to the car. "How long will that take you to sort out?" he asked, quite amused at the controller flinging.

"Not long," Edward said, sliding off the bed. "That's the third time I've cracked the case housing. It's pretty cheap plastic." He fished under the desk for the controller, then picked up the car and put them both on his bed. "The controller, on the other hand, I've thrown against the wall a couple of times and hasn't short-circuited once. That is heavy-duty."

"How to test durability of things," Shawn commented, "throw them against walls." He chuckled and shook his head in amusement. "I like your style, man."

Ed grinned, clapping his hands together lightly and placing them on the car so that the casing knit back together. "It's not like they're not easily fixable," he said. "Not that my master wouldn't smack the shit out of me for using alchemy so recklessly, but ... she's not here."

"Oh, well when you can do that, I suppose it's not so bad to throw things at walls." Shawn looked down at his own hands for a moment, then added. "Pity I can't get mine to work with inanimate objects, that would be different."

"What does 'yours' exactly do?" Ed asked mostly because his mun has no idea. "You don't talk about it often." He set his car down on the floor and nudged it with his foot.

Shawn shrugged, "I still find it a little weird to be able to tell people without them freaking out on me," he admitted.

"I have this whole healing hands deal," Shawn said holding his hands up and rubbing his fingers together in illustration. "Comes in useful sometimes."

Edward raised an eyebrow. "Healing hands? That's kinda ... cool. Not quite sure how that would work, but I've learned not to question stuff around here too much."
