The challenge with this one is to distinguish singer from songwriter. Most of my favorite male musical artists - Bob Dylan, B.B. King, David Bowie, etc., are favorites for a number of reasons unconnected to singing.
I figure the call of this question requires an answer based on the artist’s voice and use of their voice as an instrument. It’s like asking “who is your favorite guitarist” - you should play someone who excels at playing the guitar, not simply someone who has done so, unremarkably, on a number of good songs. Bob Dylan would not, for example, be my favorite guitarist either.
