Notes: For some reason the art posts for this story keep borking and eating the link to the fic, and the current purge isn't the first time it's happened. In addition, several of these pieces were flagged so here they all are in a masterpost for safe-keeping. This is the largest body of work I've made for a fic to date, and I'm still sad to this day that the story, which I think is brilliant, didn't really land as well as I think it should have based on the wonderful storytelling and the research that went into it. Hans and Sam did such a fantastic job of it all.
The fic is about how Steve, having never gotten the serum, ends up playing a role in the WW2's allied forces' Ghost Army, whose sole purpose was to confuse and subvert enemy efforts with the skills of artists, actors, performers and spies. I really love this fic, and I hope some of you do too.
Fic Summary: All actions in war take place in an atmosphere of uncertainty, or the "fog of war." Uncertainty pervades battle in the form of unknowns about the enemy, about the environment, and even about the friendly situation. While we try to reduce these unknowns by gathering information, we must realize that we cannot eliminate them-or even come close. The very nature of war makes certainty impossible; all actions in war will be based on incomplete, inaccurate, or even contradictory information.
Having said this, we realize that it is precisely those actions that seem improbable that often have the greatest impact on the outcome of war.
