Last weekend was Labour Day here, and as well as getting the Monday off, I took Friday too and drove up to craft camp - an annual meetup with some bloggers-cum-RL friends.
It started about eight years ago when we were all blogging about textile arts and sewing and stuff like that (I took that blog down years ago in case you're wondering). We hire out a craft retreat for the weekend - there's a cottage that sleeps 10 and a separate studio that's all set up for Getting Shit Done.
We all take turns just cooking one meal for everyone, and the best part is knowing that all the other meals will still happen even if you have NOTHING to do with it! AMAZE.
In the past I've taken art to work on as well as sewing stuff - I've made a freeform quilt or three while up there, thought I'd show you the kind I mean :)
They're pretty light, I've used 100% cotton batting for the fill. They're great to sleep under on warm nights when a sheet's not enough and a doona's too heavy. They're all made from scraps and whatever. I don't really mind the shapes and whatnot. I really just sort of slap bits of colour together to see what happens. Much like everything else har har, such plan, much structure >.>
This time, I took my sewing machine but didn't end up touching it at all, I drew the whole time instead and it was wonderful. I managed to complete two Stucky big bang pieces I'd started earlier as well as a private commission and some sketches for another Steve/Bucky collab project. Aaaaaand I've put a dent in another piece for the Star Wars fic for
dragonlady7, so it's been pretty fucking amazing even by the usual productivity standards which are quite high when I go up there.
It's just so peaceful and everyone's getting up early and staying up late and working the whole day. It's brilliant and I wish I could work like that all day, every day.
I listened to this a lot ♥
