I have spent the last couple of days at the Kennedy Space Center with some other engineering educators. Some of us were guests of NASA as they try to push the systems engineering approach that they use in engineering curricula.
They took us on a tour of the facilities to places where the tours open to the general public don't go. Although there was no launch scheduled for these days and the shuttle that landed was still in california, they took us inside the facility where they prepare them for future lauches. And so I got to stand three feet underneath the Discovery while they were working on inspecting and changing the tiles for thermal protection.
So for geeks like me, it was a great experience !!
