Some of you are already aware that the school has placed an advertisement to fill the post of DADA Professorship. I have already received one application and expect further. There is also no bar if one of the existing staff should wish to fill the position.
Now I have also been reviewing the situation in terms of security at the school as well as addressing the concerns of the students who wish to be ready to defend themselves. The short-lived initiative started by a number of the students during Miss Umbridge's tenure has seen some fruit in the Duelling Club. Sirius also had his Ministry sanctioned classes for those applying to the Auror training programme at the Ministry.
While I doubt something that intensive would be applicable to all, some form of self-defence as well as duelling techniques may be of interest. Rather than burden a new DADA Professor with this task as after all they need to concentrate on the established syllabus for all seven years that the way may be is to appoint someone to oversee school security and include in their remit the establishment of such an extra-curricular programme.
In all the above I am somewhat thinking aloud and certainly wish to hear from current staff as we are dealing with these issues as a collective.
