In dire need of a haircut (and expecting a decent tax return), I've booked an appointment at
this place. It'll require a day trip into Seattle, but I am undeterred! The place comes highly recommended by the good people at
naturallycurly.com, so I'm all super-excited about it. Even more so since I checked out their website. What's not to dig about a punk-rock salon with a mission statement that starts out:
At VAIN, we recognize and accept our responsibility for influencing people's perceptions about themselves and their bodies. We are committed to fostering personal self-expression and a "do-it-yourself" philosophy. VAIN works to disrupt unrealistic and harmful beauty standards from our position within the industry by expanding the definitions of beauty and style.
I am so ready to do something with my curls. Just give them a little shape. Or something. I'd be happy with a shorter cut (shoulder-length?) as long as my curls and naps could still bounce and sit happily on top of my head and scare llittle children in the morning and get in everyone's way. That's not so much to ask, is it?
