5 He stands outside the locked bathroom door, naked and anxious. “I’m really sorry Maya, are you ok?” He flattens his hand against the door and pushes against it. He can feel his throat tightening when she doesn’t answer and when he speaks again his voice wavers with unshed tears. “Maya?”
She swipes the damp cloth over her stomach, cleaning the semen off her skin. She stares in the direction of his voice and her eyes water darkly, tears running down between her breasts to stain into the cloth pressed to her stomach as her finger rub between her legs, making her shake and gasp.

~Before~
“Just stop, please. You’re driving me insane.” He utters under his breath as Maya paces the room, mumbling and praying in Spanish. Two weeks had passed and his promise to get them out had failed; his assurance of just a few more days was met with increasing anger and spite.
“I can’t stay in here any more Gabriel. You get to go outside, I should to!”
Gabriel rises from his seat at the table, stewing in frustration. “I have to go out to get a reading, and that’s for like ten seconds! I don’t want both of us to be exposed when we don’t have to be. There’s nothing to see anyway, it’s raining and dull, there ok?!”
“I want air! I feel like I’m suffocating!” She moans, slumping against a wall. Gabriel takes a breath and holds it. He wasn’t sure what had happened but after he had told her about his mother he had felt increasingly agitated with Maya, that she was privy to something he feels so guilty about. He spends hours watching her with narrow eyes, waiting for the sign of disgust and judgment. But that wasn’t all, not even close.
“Sit here then, by the fan.” He points at his seat and she sighs and comes forward. He lets himself brush against her back, the feel of her dizzying. He’s hypersensitive around her, short of breath and unsteady and he stays away as much as he can. But it was growing increasingly difficult, the soft and shy attraction now something explosive. He didn’t like it, he wasn’t meant to feel like this. Because she didn’t care, he sees her pitying eyes turning to something more wary.
Before Maya sits she suddenly envelops him in her arms, holding him securely. She was very touchy feely. “Don’t be angry with me, I just don’t like being stuck in here. I’m going stir crazy. I wish,” she hesitates, smiling up at him, “I wish that you would talk to me Gabriel, I’m your friend, ok?”
Gabriel’s eye twitches, his heart races. He lets his hands settle against her back for a moment, savouring the bare skin at the small of her back. She’s thinking about what I did to her, touching her inappropriately. He slips out of her arms with a red face. “Sure, sure. I’m glad you’re here.”
Maya brushes her fingers down his cheek softly, staring into his eyes like she’s stuck, leaning closer. But something must startle her for she backs away with a hesitating smile and sits. Gabriel leaves her there and makes an escape for the bathroom.

It was like being trapped in a room with a dog: the dog is friendly, very tame and gentle but you never quite forget at the back of your mind that they’re wolves deep down.
Not that Gabriel was a wolf, no not that, but she was growing increasingly aware of the tension in him, when he sits for hours fiddling around with the radio or reading, ignoring her. Except he wasn’t, he couldn’t, not when she’s right there.
She was wound up tight, a power keg waiting to explode. She wants the air diffused, she wants him to let go and come to her like she knows he wants. After he had confessed to her about his mother he had been filled with guilt, it was clear to see. Also embarrassment about touching her. She wasn’t blind, she could feel it every minute and she wasn’t adverse to it. When he let his guard down she was witness to a very gentle, caring man and she wants to see him, not this neurotic, snappy version. He was waiting to pounce, any moment and it was setting her on edge. Especially the nagging doubt that he wouldn’t leave this place.
She must get out soon, she must.

The Book.
Maya bolts up from sleep, clawing at her throat, trying to suck oxygen down her gaping mouth. Impenetrable darkness surrounded her but her eyes are drawn to where the door is. She thinks she can just make a faint outline coming from it and it draws her up.
The book is in her bag, it had been out there for weeks. It was her salvation, it was out there, he was out there and she was stuck in here with a man that desperately wants to fuck her. And all she can think about is crying. Her heart is about to burst and her lungs are about to pop. Must get out.
“Just for a minute, just for a moment.” She whispers in Spanish, pulling his trousers up her legs and fastening the belt around her waist. The ends drag on the floor as she feels her way round the table, furthest from the sleeping Gabriel.
Maya reaches the door and sighs when she feels the wheel under her fingers. The screech of metal as she twists it is so loud but she doesn’t care. Just do it quick, one more turn and then out, the book.
The door shakes under her hands, she’s sure of it, like it’s excited to let her out and she smiles. Can’t stay in here. Sometimes she wonders if she’ll wake to find him dead, his depression reaching new heights as she sleeps.
“Wha - Maya?!” His voice thunders around her and she moans at the sound, her movements suddenly becoming frantic as she tries to get the door open, to escape. When his hands grab her arms and swings her around she screams like he’s burning her.
“Please, please! Just for a moment. PLEASE!”
“You can’t leave me in here! I’ll die if you leave!” He raves at her, shaking her roughly. His voice cracks with strain and she gasps, struggling powerfully as she tries to turn back. She whimpers, she’s so close but he forces her to him, stumbling back from the door. He drags her with him, panting towards the bed and she makes low whining noise.
“Gabriel! Gabriel!” She barks but he seeks her mouth in the dark and crushes down against her, forcing his tongue into her mouth. Maya stiffens but then just as suddenly twists her hands in his hair, wrenching his head down to her as she kisses him back hard.
What happens next is a blur to both of them, powered with so much pent of tension; they rip their clothes off and fall onto the bed, Maya on her back. He pants raggedly over her, his hands pushing her thighs up as he settles there. His eyes take long greedy glances at her sex and then brushes his thumb against the raised hood of her clitoris. She arches her back with a mew and wriggles down closer to him, chest heaving. She watches, raised up on an elbow as he grasps his penis in hand and starts to direct it to where she’s teeming wet but she gasps and paddles back, shaking her head. Gabriel looks at her with desperation, leaning over her more and with fast, needy thrusts pokes at her anus.
“Not there!”
“I’m sorry! I don’t know what I’m doing! God I’m gonna -” He’s cut off sharply when she leans closer to him and takes his cock in her hand. Gabriel rests on his knees, one hand propping himself up and he watches as she starts to jerk her hand up and down his shaft. The sight of this is to much to his already over sensitive body; he grips her pumping hand in his and directs her movements harshly. The friction of her smooth hand gliding over his hot shaft makes him stiffen as his orgasm peaks and he ejaculates over her stomach with a yell.
She lies back, looking up at him as his body trembles with release, his limbs feeling lax. His crushing grip on her fingers lessens and she slips her hand away from his softening penis and looks down at her belly. Gabriel rests back on his knees, the euphoric bliss fading as he stares at her prone naked body and the mess he had made. His stomach churns with shame as she bites the inside of her cheek and rises, pushing him away from her.
Now look what you did!
His face reddens with self disgust as she disappears into the bathroom and he moves towards the door, leaning against it.
“Maya?…I’m really sorry Maya, are you ok?”

She stems her tears and throws the cloth away as he calls her name softly. She’s not even sure why she’s crying, being stuck here and so frustrated was taking a toll. He sounds so ashamed and worried that she presses her hand against the door, stroking it.
“I’m alright Gabriel, really.”
“I’m - I’m so embarrassed. I‘ve never…you know…” His voice wavers as it trails off and she realises that he’s trying not to cry. Virgin, first experience like that. Maya grasps the handle in her hand, but he stops her with hasty words.
“Wait please, I wanna - I wanna get dressed first.”
Maya stalls and nods. “That’s ok.”
“I’ll bring you your clothes to…”
A few minutes later and Maya opens the door to find Gabriel standing away from her, looking absolutely pristine. But his face twitches uncontrollably and he appears very pale and sweaty. Maya moves to him and he holds his breath as she stops a few inches from him, looking up into his eyes.
“Don’t feel bad or ashamed Gabriel. I wanted you but there was no…” She waves her hand in the air, looking for the word.
“Contraception? You looked like you were upset with me, you didn’t look…satisfied.” He whispers, red faced and Maya feels her own cheeks burning. She shrugs, feeling more shy now then she did naked.
“It doesn’t matter, I took care of it.” She looks away and steps back, sitting down at the table and after a hesitation he joins her.
He shakes his head, disapproval shining from his eyes. “I’m such a let down, that’s what my mother thought and she was right.” Maya straightens in her seat, frowning fiercely but he carries on before she can speak, “I’m not good with people, I’m not good with women so I just stayed away. My mother always wanted me to make something of myself and all I did was fix watches, that’s all I’m good for.” He looks at the door bitterly, his face darkening. “It wouldn’t make a difference if I stayed down here indefinitely, what use would I be up there? My life is over, my profession smashed to pieces.” He slumps back, eyes on her.
Maya shakes her head, rising. “You shouldn’t speak like that. Have a little faith Gabriel. If it wasn’t for you I’d be dead now,” she crouches down next to his chair, taking his hand tenderly. He snorts without humour at a thought but as he looks down at her his features soften.
“I’d be swinging from that cross beam by now if you weren’t in here with me.” He says this matter-of-factly and bile rises up in her throat. She makes a noise of dissent and presses her mouth to the back of his hand.
“I’ll take care of you. I need you Gabriel, I can’t bare being on my own.”
“You?” He says with disbelief.
“Si! I have a twin brother, Alejandro - he‘s everything I had in the world but now he‘s gone.” He eyes prick with tears and he frowns.
“Is he…”
“No, he’s back home and safe.” She smiles with a nod as she rises. She brushes his neatly combed hair with her fingertips, looking intensely into his eyes. “Once we get out of here everything will be new. God has spared us Gabriel, has given me another chance for salvation…” Her fingers brush down his cheek as her eyes soften, “He lead me to you.”
Gabriel looks up at her, feeling strangely overwhelmed. Emotional. He can’t remember a time he’s felt so strongly before. “Make a new start out there? New life?
“Si, make better of what was.” She smiles, breathing in deep. She had a faith that was something he couldn’t fathom, something not even his mother had. Maya’s eyes brighten with an idea. “Maybe she survived Gabriel! It’s not an impossibility.”
He shakes his head and shrugs, not wanting to say anything. She’s dead, he can feel it. Instead he grips the reading meter in his fist and stands, Maya stepping back. He gets to the door, turning back to her with a serious face. He tilts his head to the bed and she looks at it and back at him.
“That won’t ever happen again, I promise.” With that said he opens the door and closes it behind him as Maya looks at the door, crestfallen.
