I think he does that to build himself up and to dissociate. Like he's talking about someone else, someone he looks up to.

That's a good point. It was like he was narrating his own story.

He's defiantly in the murky grey area but I felt bad for him because he was lonely, yearning to keep his humanity and missing his family.

Did you read the BH spoilers? It's from the preview (which isn't out yet)
