Been watching my complete series of "Gunsmoke" on DVD from the beginning. Currently midway through season 12. In the episode "Champion of the World", Alan Hale Jr. is a guest star. His character gets associated with a shady character called "Professor". This was during the final season of "Gilligan's Island", which was canceled because William Paley's wife liked "Gunsmoke" and wanted it to continue, thus causing Gilligan to be dropped.
The next episode, "The Hanging", had Kit Smythe as a guest, who originally played "Ginger" in the original unaired "Gilligan's Island" pilot episode, before they recast and put Tina Louise in the role.
