More Mom Details
Mom pre-paid for a cremation plan with a local funeral home back in 2010. She told me several times she didn't want a "service" or anything, just a simple cremation. In her later years, like me, she wasn't really "religious", and also, since she outlived all but two of her five siblings, turnout would be sparse anyway, especially since the one sibling who lives out of state never calls back when contacted.
The hospital said the next call I get will most likely be from the funeral home. Mom was anticipating this might happen, and told me where all the papers were in her bedroom, since the colon cancer removal was high risk at her age with her heart issues, and I have set the papers out now.
Since mom had started slowing down months ago, I've been preparing myself for this moment. She would have turned 81 in September.
I know I'll need to contact Social Security and her postal retirement plan soon to let them know the situation, so they will stop sending benefits. Her plan with the local funeral home included six death certificates.
