I'm Depressed

Tried watching some television in the livingroom this evening, but kept looking over at mom's empty rocker/recliner, and thinking how she most likely won't ever use it again. I decided to come back to the desktop PC and digitize more old audio cassettes instead. Over the weekend, I was looking through the old index card files of the pretend "broadcasts" of the old Tape and Record Show Enterprises programs I produced in the 1980's, found listings for three shows with VERY short runs on the weekly schedule which I somehow overlooked earlier. I dug into the large cardboard boxes in the closet and found the cassettes of the shows. Here's what I digitized tonight from that batch...

"Late Night With David Letterman, Pilot 1. Broadcast Wednesday, February 29, 1984 at 7:00pm central. Theme Music: Late Night With David Letterman Theme. A trial series featuring repeats of the popular NBC late night series. Dave welcomes musical guest Cyndi Lauper and gives a lesson on hotel etiquette with Larry "Bud" Melman on part two of Virgin Islands week. Features David Letterman, Paul Schafer, Bill Wendell, and Calvert Deforest as "Larry 'Bud' Melman".

Late Night With David Letterman, Pilot 2. Broadcast Wednesday, March 7, 1984 at 7:00pm central. Theme Music: Late Night With David Letterman Theme. A trial series featuring repeats of the popular NBC late night series. This week's program features Lev Schneider, the Russian psychic, part one of Virgin Islands week, and balloon artists Bob and Etta Rollins. Features David Letterman, Paul Schafer, Bill Wendell, and Calvert Deforest as "Larry 'Bud' Melman".

An Album In Thirty Minutes: Episode 1. Broadcast Wednesday, January 18, 1984 at 7:30pm central. Theme Music: "Our House" (Madness) - A new series which features the best songs off today's top albums. This week's album is "Madness". Songs include: Our House, It Must Be Love, Primrose Hill, House of Fun, Night Boat to Cairo, Rise and Fall, Cardiac Arrest, and Madness Is All In The Mind.

An Album In Thirty Minutes: Episode 2. Broadcast Wednesday, January 25, 1984 at 7:30pm central. Theme Music: "Jack and Jill" (Raydio) - A new series which features the best songs off today's top albums. This week's album is "Raydio". Songs include: Is This A Love Thing, Betcha Can't Love Me Just Once, Honey I'm Rich, Jack and Jill, Me, Let's Go All The Way, and Get Down."

The Letterman shows are edited down to half hour episodes from the original one hour NBC broadcasts. The TRSE version only lasted two half hour episodes before it was dropped from the weekly schedule. As you can tell from the descriptions, the two half hours were "broadcast" by TRSE out of order. In episode 1, Cyndi Lauper tells an entertaining "fish story". We also discover Lou Albano introduced Cyndi to Pee Wee Herman."Larry" advertises his "Toast On A Stick". In episode two, comedian Robert Klein is mentioned, but didn't make the final TRSE edit. Also, the balloon artists are mentioned, and are noted on the TRSE "broadcast" card, but they aren't heard from either on the audio cassette. Had to install a new pressure pad on the cassette before it would play properly, since the original had basically turned into "powder" since 1984. It was a cheap "generic" tape with no brand name or company listed on the label.

In episode one of "An Album In Thirty Minutes", I announced the featured album as "Madness by Geffen Records". Made it sound like the artist was "Geffen Records", not "Madness". Also, none of the episodes featured an entire album in the weekly half hour, just selected tunes from the albums to fit the time slot.

Episode two of "An Album In Thirty Minutes" featured an early album by Ray Parker, Jr., who later got notoriety for the theme to the movie "Ghostbusters".
