Wired For Sound... And Other Things

Feb 21, 2022 23:25

This morning, went to the hospital for some tests... echocardiogram, EKG, and a Holter monitor which I have to wear until Wednesday morning. Even though I'm "wired up", I'm still working on the digitization of the old Tape and Record Show Enterprises audio archives this evening, since I prolly won't sleep well tonight anyway with my current "attachments", and I don't have to be up early tomorrow morning...

The two Dr.Demento episodes were more of the two hour weekly Westwood One Radio show Barry Hansen was doing at the time, which TRSE chopped down to half-hour installments to fill a weekly time slot after the Friday night "Tape and Record Show". Yes, even though Tape and Record Show Enterprises was a "pretend radio show" thingy, we had set time slots for every show per week. Like Dr. Demento, I myself was a bit "demented" when it came to my "hobby". Then again, I'm STILL rather "demented" I guess, with my current hobby of trying to digitize all the old existing tapes recorded by my friends and I for TRSE from 1979 on...

Episode 49 was a rare episode of the "Song Mirage" NOT recorded at the main TRSE studio, instead, James recorded it at his house, had himself "co-hosting" as his alter-ego "Jacob J. Welsh", the Bill Saluga "Raymond J. Johnson, Jr" ripoff impersonation. Can't remember details that far back, but I'm guessing there was a time James couldn't make it to the studio, so he improvised. James still slips up and calls his alter-ego "Johnson" in the episode. Well, you doesn't have to call him "Johnson". Welsh sings along with David Naughton's song "Makin' It". You DO hear me in the original "broadcast" edit however, in the middle of the song, chiming in that I had "NOTHING" to do with the production, as a lame attempt to add more humor to the episode. The "master tape" wouldn't have my input. Also, this was pre-scandal Bill Cosby.

Episode 50 was also recorded at James' house, and he enlisted Dusty Danna as co-host. I never met the person, so I have no idea who the person was, just that he sounded "young". Kind of like Ronnie Linder, who appeared briefly on an early "James Stricklin Happy Hour" recorded at James' house in 1982, never met him either that I know of. As with the previous episode, final editing for the episode was by me from the tape James provided at the time.

Episode 51 was recorded back in the "main studio", with James' brother-in-law at the time, Randy Haney, as co-host.
