I'm staying home from work today because Linda's still in the hospital but will hopefully be getting out this afternoon.
Because of her accident, we missed out on our plans to attend the "Burns Light" festivities in Dumfries to celebrate the 250th birthday of Robert Burns. From what we've heard, we didn't miss out on too much. There were thousands and thousands of people there... so attendance was good... but apparently the sound system kept failing, and there was a feeling that it took place too early in the day. It started at 3:00 and kicked off with a lantern procession with schoolkids carrying homemade lanterns. What's the point of a lantern procession when it's still light outside ? They should have done it later (from what I hear). First Minister Alex Salmond was there and spoke, which I would've liked to see... and it ended with a large wicker statue of a Robert Burns poem character Tam O'Shanter going up in flames in the River Nith.
Here's the BBC story on it...
