Couldn't Get Wood

Well...  I found out last night that I didn't get the job at the sawmill.  Oh bother.  That's three interviews in the past while for similar jobs that I didn't get.  I'm just not the maintenance engineer type, I guess.  Not an electrician...  more of a...  messiah.

Besides, it might be nice to have the summer to lounge around instead of work in a dusty, noisy sawmill up to my elbows in programmable logic controls.  And those grapes were sour anyway.

In other news...  as expected, despite the huge fee of £655, Linda talked me into sending away for the UK citizenship badge.  It should take a couple to several weeks.  Then I'll officially be British and will start driving on the left.  It's been a bit dangerous driving on the right for these past several years.

In still other news, I'm happy to report that I'm back on top of my fantasy football league at work.  I had a pretty good week with about five or six of my guys getting goals.  I just need to hang on til the end of the season next month, and then I will be crowned cleverest boy in Fantasy Football Land.

HR at work screwed up a bit when explaining our redundancy package several weeks ago... and it's all just come to light over the past couple days.  Without going into it too much, basically it turns out that instead of getting 3 weeks pay per year of service plus 1 week per year termination notice, in reality I'll just get  2 weeks per year plus one week per year pay in lieu of notice... because the pay in lieu of notice was INCLUDED in the 3 weeks figure.  That's the part that was poorly explained.  The bottom line is, I lose about eight weeks of pay !!!!   Actually, only about half of that because I'll be continuing to work there until the end of May anyway.  Confused ?  I was too.  So was everyone else connected with this redundancy.  We aren't very happy about this, either.

And that's the latest from River City.
