While I'm on the subject.... Here's my entry a few weeks later after the first Gulf War started, 30 years ago:
"Monday, February 11, 1991, Kingston, NH
We're in the 4th week of the war. The longer it takes, the longer I think it will take.
When it started, it seemed too good to be true (the success reported in the 1st couple days). Still, the news is very good but it doesn't look like Iraq is going to give up. The ground war is still to come and no one is looking forward to that.
So far it's been air strikes for the most part. Although Iraq invaded the border town of Khafji. Saudi troops with U.S. support took it back the next day.
There's been overwhelming support for the war here in the U.S. There are yellow ribbons everywhere to show support for the troops. Lots of letter writing. Everyone feels patriotic. I wonder how the mood will be when the body bags come home by the thousands.
Israel still refuses to retaliate after receiving dozens of SCUD missile attacks. The Patriot missile has been doing very well in intercepting incoming SCUDS. It's made by Raytheon in Andover, I think. I went to an interview there, or in Lowell... back in '88."
