I'm Still Standing
Another for my Song Hall of Fame... "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John
This song always puts me in mind of summer of 1983 which was when I was working as a floor cleaner at a supermarket in Natick during the night shift in the months after graduating high school and previous to going to UMass for Freshman year.
During night shift, someone was always playing the radio over the intercom (as the store was closed, just had me and a bunch of night shift shelf stackers). Typically, it was top 40 songs being played over the radfio and this one was in heavy rotation, along with songs from Michael Jackson's Thriller album, Duran Duran, the Safety Dance, Jackson Browne lawyers in love, Men at Work, ZZ Top sharp dressed man etc etc.
This summer, I would typically hang out with my girlfriend Rhani for a couple hours in the evening before going in to work about 11pm until 7am or so.
