Alexa, write a livejournal post...

For my birthday recently, Linda got me an Amazon Echo...  which uses the Alexa App....  so basically, you talk to it and it will answer your questions or play a song or other things.... games, jokes, tell the news, weather, etc.....  So we're just getting used to it now.  It's pretty cool in that it will play songs just by asking for them (if it's in the music library we have access to)...  or play any random song from the 1960's or from a particular year or genre or by a particular artist or even whole albums, just by asking.  To me, that's cool, but I usually have an ulterior motive when listening to songs in that for several years now I run a little competition for my "song hall of fame"...  Anyway, I need to somehow figure out how to combine this new way of listening to music with my competition if I can....  or not.  On the other hand, music in our house is not often played when Linda and I are together in the same room, as we rarely have the same tastes and don't often want to hear the same things..... and would rather usually have the TV on instead.  So we're still trying to figure out where this music will fit into our lives.  More on this later....

Back to add more to this post.....   By the way, it would REALLY be cool if Alexa could transcribe a voice message to Livejournal automatically.  There must be some way to do this but I'm too lazy or inept to actually figure it all out.  Can probably do it via a smart phone easier anyway.

Back on the subject of music...  It's, of course, not like we never had things to play music in the house before....  of course we have cd players and a record player even....  but we VERY RARELY use them....  as we're usually together in the house, in the same room and usually watching TV rather than listening to music.  I'd like to listen to music, but it's not really what Linda likes to do.  We normally read with some TV show playing.  Maybe Alexa will change that.  Personally, I can do without fancy TV channels and would rather get by on the basic news.  There are a couple shows we always watch together, tho...  Coronation Street, for instance.

During TV, I typically read my news magazine (The Week) and snip out the parts that I like and I want to save in my hardcopy journal.  This typically really bugs Linda, especially lately.  I think we need to both put down the books and find an activity we can do together.... board game or jigsaw???
