Something interesting I noticed about Supernatural:
While Sam seems to die a hell of a lot more often than Dean (I think he's averaged about once a season?), when faced with the prospect of death he seems to become a lot more serious about it, be it his own or someone else's.
Dean, on the other hand, definitely did not take his own death seriously at all.
I mean, I'm watching that scene in Swan Song where they're driving to Detroit, and I'm reminded of the episode just before Dean went to Hell, where they were going somewhere and Dean turned on Bon Jovi and there was some spontaneous karaoke-ing. It's almost the exact same setup, if you take out the snoring angel in the backseat: the boys are facing a hopeless situation where one is guaranteed to die painfully and go to Hell, and as they drive they get closer to this inevitable happening. But, rather than try and cheer up his brother, who has basically started the grieving process already, Sam takes the exact opposite approach that Dean did and basically rubs the "I'm gonna die and there's nothing you can do about it" mud in his face with this whole "YOU CAN'T TRY AND BRING ME BACK DEAN".
And...well, I mean, I know Sam's the more realistic of them (not really; I mean, he IS talking about mentally overthrowing THE DEVIL), but I was hoping for a little bit more goof before Shit Went Down. Maybe an impromptu a cappella sesh with sleepy!Cas.
I dunno. Discuss.
On a completely unrelated note, out of all the things in this episode that are getting to me OF COURSE it's Chuck talking about the history of the Impala.
