I do not have any Rory/Amy icons and that is gross

So, normally, I really hate the women in the things that I like. This started off when I was...thirteen or so and was all into Naruto and oh my god, Sakura. I hated Sakura. She annoyed me so much; her character was inconsistent, her motivations were pathetic, and she was just an overly-stereotypical girl. And I didn't want to read about a girl who ( Read more... )

Yeah, females in popular culture generally suck. Have you watched Firefly? (someone online was recently talking about it but I don't remember who...) The female characters are all AMAZING in their own, unique ways (probably because Joss Whedon is the creator. He does women pretty well.)

I'd also recommend the show The Pretender (which you can stream online) just because Miss Parker is one of the most BAMF women in a series ever. She's just ... such a snarky, take-no-shit BITCH and she knows it, but there's this great soft underside that becomes more prominent as the series continues. I'm also pimping out The Pretender wherever I go, bc no one seems to have seen it and I know it's 10 years old but it's GREAT.

I'm in a show/book reccing mood tonight, so yeah. Those are my recs. :-)

I don't know if it's because males are the predominant writers or people just don't want to deal with controversy of having atypical female characters or what, but they definitely do. And no, I haven't, but I've heard it was good. I think we might have it in a boxed set somewhere around here...and knowing that it has decent female characters is encouraging. :D

I've heard of that, but considering it's ten years old, I was only seven or eight when it came out, probably. But I think I remember my mom watching it...

GO WATCH THEM. They are both great series. And the main guy in The Pretender is just sex on legs. SEX. ON LEGS. I'M TELLING YOU.

OOO and Veronica Mars is a great female lead too. Snarky and smart.

I WILL. Oh, speaking of sex on legs and your icon, my French copy of Good Omens has these really awesome pictures of Aziraphale and Crowley and oh sweet lord the things I would do to them both. OBSERVE:

GOOD LORD WHAT IS ON CROWLEY'S FACE? AT NO POINT IN THE STORY DOES IT EVER SAY HE HAS A MUSTACHE LIKE AN OIL TYCOON IN THE WILD WEST. DO NOT WANT.

It's about a teen detective! In a totally gritty, noir, non-lame way.

(PS I'M TOTALLY PUTTING AZIRAPHALE INTO MY CURRENT FANFICTION. IT'S GREAT. THERE'S GONNA BE THIS AWKWARD SCENE WHERE A CHARACTER CATCHES CROWLEY COMING OUT OF AZ'S BEDROOM IN A BATHROBE AND THEY STARE AT EACH OTHER FOR A MOMENT AND ARE JUST LIKE....WE'LL NEVER SPEAK OF THIS AGAIN. MAKES ME TOO HAPPY.)

IT'S FRENCH. THEY DO THESE THINGS (I think it looks pretty nice. I bet Az made him shave it off shortly after this picture was taken, though. Crowely made him throw out the violet and yellow tartan sweatervest in revenge.)

That sounds pretty cool. I'll check it out. :D

(OH MAN DO WANT. WHAT'S THIS ONE ABOUT?)

SHAVE THE BEARD OFF AND (AM I CRAZY) HE LOOKS A LITTLE LIKE DAVID TENNANT Y/N?

(It's the same one I've been writing, the Cas/OC, but I'm only like halfway through the second book posting-wise and Az doesn't come in until partway thru the third book....yeah, I write too much of this damn story.)

I...I don't see it. D: MAYBE IT'S THE SIDEBURNS?

(Ha, I know that feeling. *stares at the 100 pages worth of what basically amounts to horny teenage gay dudes vaguely based on guys in bands*)
