I stole this idea from a forum thread of
mrgray's. Basically, I've been listening to mostly the same music and the same bands for the last year or so, and it's high-time I branched out. So, feel free to recommend as much of your favorite music as you're willing to post about! New music and old classics will both be appreciated. Include a top pick,

After Christmas, my cd-rom drive stopped playing music CDs correctly, it would skip. So since I had recently installed an 80 gb hard drive (as opposed to my old 20 gb one), I was working on ripping MP3s from CDs I had. Since it wouldn't rip them without the files skipping, I started using my CD-RW drive to do it.
I have a 52x burner, which I was warned when I bought it by a co-worker to not burn at that speed, because the drive could fly open and the CD would put my eye out or something. So I always burned at 40x. But apparently after repeatedly using that drive for ripping, it decided to eat my No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom CD. It was ripping fine, and then CRASH. Open the drive, CD broken into pieces. Got 2 of the bigger ones, but there were still some inside.
A few days later, removed the drive and opened it up to get the rest of the CD out. Didn't realize that by just taking it out of the PC and opening it I would've been able to get the CD ... it looked like it was really in there. So in trying to put it back together, the two little wires coming from the drive and soddered onto the circuit board came off. I don't think it's worth fixing, and I'm too poor still to buy a new one.
I have my old crappy slow-as-shit burner back in now, so maybe I'll work on this soon.
