Prompt: Overheard. Eavesdropping and its possible consequences (be it misunderstandings, hurt and anger, something awkward taken totally out of context, whatever).

Summary: Lestrade comes into the yard to the sound of whispers. (follow-up to "Heat")

The first thing Lestrade is aware of as he enters the yard is the solemn atmosphere. The second are the whispers ghosting through the rooms, voices hushed and nervous.
The third thing is that no one can look him in the eye.
He holds his head high, trying not to show anything, but his mask starts to crumble the more he understands from the whispers going all around him.
"Everything went up in flames! It was enormous!"
"Even the people outside were shaken and..."
"... he ran like a maniac, screaming..."
"... and four men had to hold him back or he would have run right into the flames!"
"No way he survived that, it is so horrible."
"He was such a good man."
"Poor Mr. Holmes."
Those last words stop Lestrade and he immediatly turns around, leaving the yard once more.
His paperwork can wait - there is something more urgent he has to take care of.
And he hopes fervently that he had not just overheard his colleagues pronouncing the Doctor dead.
