Author: Alaylith

Characters: Watson, Holmes
Summary: Watson feels lost in some parts of foggy London. (July Prompt 19)
WordCount: 319
Prompt: July 19 ~~~Song

A Foggy Day (in London Town)

I was a stranger in the city
Out of town were the people I knew
I had that feeling of self-pity
What to do? What to do? What to do?
The outlook was decidedly blue
But as I walked through the foggy streets alone
It turned out to be the luckiest day I've known

A foggy day in London Town
Had me low and had me down
I viewed the morning with alarm
The British Museum had lost its charm
How long, I wondered, could this thing last?
But the age of miracles hadn't passed,
For, suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London Town
The sun was shining everywhere.

Author's Note: Just a little something. Tried to include some elements of the song, but otherwise felt quite unimaginative... On the one hand it is interesting and challenging to connect all these prompts to a bigger story. On the other hand it is also quite constricting... ._.
Oh and I am already afraid of the last ten prompts, as KCS promised us that they are going to be more difficult. :/
Almost forgot - this one here takes place after Little Note, but can be read on its own.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Holmes enters a little alleyway and disappears behind a door, Watson takes the time to look around.

To his surprise he has no idea where they are.

Even after living for almost 20 years in London, there are times when Watson feels like a stranger in the city. Of course he will never know London as well as Holmes, but sometimes he can not help and feel completely lost.

A damp fog prowls through the streets and Watson draws his coat closer around him. He walks the road down to the next crossroad and looks around; trying to find a hint as to where exactly they are at the moment.

When he was unable to find anything Watson feels a little bit sad.

Years ago he was fascinated with London; this great and beautiful city. No matter what was and what will be - London is always going to be his home; the place where he belongs.

But now as he stands in the fog, cold winds howling between the houses, feeling lost and sad - London does not appear like home.

The atmosphere is like that of a graveyard. And Watson shudders when he thinks that he is no visitor, but a tenant.

“Watson?”

Watson turns around and sees Holmes standing behind him in the fog, a frown upon his face.

“Is something wrong?” Holmes asks and Watson shakes his head, a small smile on his lips. “No, Holmes, I just don’t know where we are.”

Holmes grins. “Well, in London, of course! But do not worry; we are not far from home.”

As Holmes links his arm with Watson’s, Watson blinks surprised.

That’s right; even though London is their city - their home is and always will be Baker Street. And as long as Holmes is with him Watson does not need to know all streets and corners of this big city.

Holmes will always lead him home.
