Yeah, I'm alive. I'm actually working on part of my drawing final right now, as goes my endless cycle of homework. Anyway, since I NEED to procrastinate from that (WAY SCARY), I'm here. Because I still love you guys, even if you don't remember who the fuck I am by now. Also I wanted to show you guys some stuff that I've been doing. Just so you know, I haven't just been sitting around, spacing out and doing nothing. Which... concidentally I never evereverever do.
Still lifes! Yeah, way exciting I know! This one was an in-class assignment, which is why it's not finished, because we only had 3 weeks and I'm usually like la la la... what? Oh, let's look out the window in the studio. If I could, I'd go back and finish all the fabric, and the spoon, and the flowers, and and... I guess I like the shoe, so I'd leave that. I guess. Um. =twirls hair around finger=
Man, painting in oils is too fucking hard. This was a 3 week homework assignment, and it looked a lot worse, but I fixed a lot the week after, so my teacher gave me My First A In Painting. Yay! for grade grubbing! I worked my ass off though. Observe, while still avoiding any of those tricky little folds in the fabric of course.
I love my drawing teacher, he's definitely more of an illustrator by nature, but I usually like his assignments and he's so enthusiastic about the class, it's adorable. This is the view of the hallway in my apartment from the futon in the living room.
I think I'll rework this before my final critique next week, fix the shading, and the skirt's fabric (that incomprehensible thing sticking out of the box), among things, which is really unnatural, but I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out. Maybe just because it's a nice, calming, blue. Like a gentle breeze even. Hmm. Yes. A gentle breeze.
My friend Sam. He skates and likes The OC girls, take note. Such a nice boy, too bad about that bad taste in television thing. ;)
I ended up starting over on my drawing of the set up we'd been working on for 3 hours or something, with like 20 minutes left to go. Not an uncommon occurrence.
My favorite self-portrait. This alone took me 8 hours, so I don't think I'll even go back to finish it. But I like how I at least started to get the different angles of the face in there. And I loves my cushy giant headphones.
This is based on a self-portrait by Egon Schiele. My drawing class took a trip to the Met and the Neue Gallerie in New York, and we were assigned 3 hours of sketchbook work. Then we had to choose one sketch and finish the composition. (I didn't think he actually wanted us to copy the work exactly, so I didn't. Apparently he did. Screw it.)
This is a piece I did for my Electronic Media and Culture class in Illustrator. I think I am quite doomed if I work in Illustrator and STILL make stuff that looks Photoshopped.
Well that's just a few things, if anyone was at all interested. I'm currently a graphic design major, but I'm thinking of changing my major to drawing, because I don't like the idea of constraining myself to a computer for a large portion of my major anymore, even though I was interested in a printmaking concentration. I really like the process of drawing, especially charcoal. And I'm hoping with a more specialized area I can focus better, and maybe I can get much better with 3 years of practice, especially with drawing from life, since drawing is generally painstaking for me and takes AGES. I mean, most of my drawing homework assignments take me 8 hours minimum. It's crazy but usually really gratifying for me though, which is rare for most of my classes. Anyway. COLLEGE IS HARD.
