My cousin Mike had a couple of comments about some one who he was chatting with. Apparently this lady had a problem with understanding the concept of absolute truth. Mike is the reason I write most of these posts, mainly because before I'm able to collect my thoughts or explain them he interrupts me. Anyway, it is foolish to not understand the concept, but there are plenty of people who cannot see farther than their nose and you shouldn't be surprised because they cannot grasp a subject. Any who, because of this dumb bitch I am writing my thoughts on the matter.
The idea of absolute truth goes hand in hand with the belief of "God". If you believe there is another higher force that governs us all, then you will also fall into the idea of them being all powerful, or at least more powerful than you. So, if in fact there is a "God" and he/she/it knows everything and is perfect then there would be absolute truth. There is one fundamental problem with ideology; we don't live under a god. We exist in a reality, on earth, a place where "God" doesn't show himself. He stays hidden from our sight and touch, and he hides within our lives. There is no way to truly reach him until death, so here on earth, in life absolute truth seems to be void. Now Mike tried to give an example, when I argued that he should at least think about not having absolute truth. He held out his hand, and extended his pointer finger. He asked, "What is this?". I quickly responded "It's your finger". Mike responds with Pdog nodding his head "There you go, it can't be anything else". This was the extend of the conversation because I was in the middle of Halo and didn't care enough to get into a discussion.
Now my argument. It isn't a good idea to take a concept that incorporates the entirety of life and existence to a simple thing as a pointer finger extended on a hand. I could have easily said it was the number one, or him being a dick to me. All of which would be true to me as long as I live. He indeed was holding out his finger, but absolute truth would dictate that Mike was holding out his finger, that Pdog was on his computer, that the JFK assassination was conspiracy, that God truly exists. You see, absolute truth is finite, the end, the only truth. And yet every moment we live creates more truth, and there is still more to come. Absolute truth cannot exist in human beings, it is an impossibility. A counter point to Mike's and Matt's argument, one in which holds firm on Matt's beliefs and peels back the validity of Mikes. I was at a low name Italian food restaurant and I had filled my cup of with Coke. After which I replied, "This is the best Coke I have ever had". Now Matt said, "What if it was Mr. Pibb?". Mike and I both answered in unison, "It's still the best Coke I/he has ever had." If I did in fact had Mr. Pibb in my glass the absolute truth would be that I indeed had the best Mr. Pibb that I have ever tasted. Yet, in my mind and forever I would have thought that it was Coke. In reality it was Mr. Pibb, but for Mike, Pdog and I it would always be a glass of Coke.
Finally my last thoughts. If we live in a world void of absolute truth then there we shouldn't spend our time worrying about it. Just like engineering, we can't duplicate these circuits exactly (absolute truth), but out techniques come within 1-3% or so of the actual answer (relative truth), and this is expectable or else we wouldn't be able to do all of the great things that we do now, like type on a computer. If you think about it, if this world was based on absolute truth we would be much more like robots than humans. There would be no arguments, because we would know for sure. For people who think we are losing that, I find it funny that they argue that point. In the end, absolute truth is just a perk of dieing and being reborn in the after life. There is little need to worry about it now. Live your lives, remember well, remember the truth that suites you, it is the only one that you'll remember anyway.
