a case of the Mondays

Oct 22, 2007 18:52

Sometimes Monday feels like Monday, even when you don't have a normal job.

I'm so disgusted with my students that I don't want to talk about them, so I'll talk about my extended weekend instead, and then we'll have some Helen. So the game plan goes me, random blah blah blah, Helen. Got it?

Thursday night was the annual Guthrie Awards Dinner for the Huntington's Disease Society of America. I don't know what we did, but H. and I got demoted, along with the other peons from the archives, to one of the back tables. Maybe it was because last year H. and Michael started a food fight while (then)-Governor Pataki was speaking, and ended up braining him with a pumpernickel breadstick. I don't know; it seemed appropriate at the time. Anyway, H. can still say he has been in the same room with his heart's desire, John Mellencamp.

Okay, no, just kidding. His heart's desire, Joan Baez, who was looking appropriately adorable with her short, spiky hair. But John Mellencamp was there too, looking... just short. I'd post a photo of me, but I look like a big, fat, hunchbacked lump in all of them, and I don't think anyone needs to see that.

Duddy & me - I was the only one sans Wake schwag.

I spent the weekend in D.C. hanging out with my favorite gnome, my college friend Duddy, doing things like drinking giant peach margaritas. In fact... we drank a lot. Beer. Wine. Champagne. It was very "college" of us. Saturday I don't think I ingested any liquid that *wasn't* alcoholic. Oh, wait -- coffee. Saturday we went with our sorority sister Jamie, Jamie's parents, and our friend Jenny to the Wake Forest/Navy game in Annapolis, and mad props to Wake for kicking some serious Navy ass. GO DEACS!

That's Jamie closest to the camera, then Duddy, me, and Jenny.

All of the navy midshipmen have to march onto the field before the game. I guess that's one way to up your gameday attendance.

Pre-game fly-over.
Somewhere out there, a photo of the four of us with Wake Forest's ridiculous yet awesome (much like myself) mascot, the Demon Deacon, is floating around; so if I get my grubby little hands on that, I'll post it here for your viewing pleasure.

And now, the Helen portion of the evening. I've been grossly remiss in my LJ-Helen-photo-posting in recent months, but fear not -- I've been posting my little heart out at HH! :) Anyway, I thought I'd just choose a few photos relatively recent shots. Well, and one I stumbled upon recently.

Why, evil newspaper, must you tantalize us with this gorgeous photo, and yet make it so SMALL?

Obviously not recent, but currently on display. In Rome.

Shopping on Bond Street. I won't lie -- these shoes make my eyes bleed a little.

With Aussie TV host Andrew Denton. Go here to watch delicious excerpts from the interview (and admire the blouse):  http://www.abc.net.au/tv/enoughrope/
(Mmkay, my link isn't linking. Copy and paste, if you're so inclined. And hey, make sure you watch the promo, too! It's Helen Gold.)

You knew I'd lose my shit over these shoes, right?

Thanks for playing. Peace, love, & Helen to you all!
