Time for my semiannual update...
So, feeling a bit depressed. My bro was home for a couple of weeks after close to a year in Korea. Today he had to move on to report in at his new duty station here in the states, which means he's now a ten-hour drive away. Better than Korea, but still, it sucks that he had to go at all.
Likewise, in a couple days my neice and nephew will be moving away with their mother and stepfather. Unlike my brother, there's no compelling reason for them to move away except that Vanesa doesn't want to live HERE, mostly because she can't stand up to her parents when they butt into things.
On a side note, I saw Shopgirl tonight. It's an interesting exploration of the awkwardness and complexity of relationships, not to mention a collection of incredible performances in the three key roles. My only real criticisms are that sometimes the visuals tried a little too hard, and that they really needed to give the strings a rest in the score. -_- I couldn't help but identify with the character of Jeremy - "socially inept" tends to describe me pretty well, although I hope to God I'm not quite THAT bad. The fact that the key element in his finding mutual love was getting his own life together makes me wonder whether I should be making more of an effort in that direction. Then again, it IS fiction, and I don't think I've got his kind of luck, anyway. -_-
On an unrelated note, is anyone else bothered by game FAQS that are low on data and high on opinions and advice? I'm replaying X-Men Legends (Fun game, BTW. Rent it if you haven't played it yet.) and every guide with character info is generally just a collection of opinions regarding general usefulness and skill and stat allocation. Not a single one I've looked at so far lists things like base stats, the natural stat growth progression, and actual numbers for the various mutant powers. It's frustrating, especially for a game like this one, where there are really so many directions you can go without really being penalized by the game, but every guide seems bent on pushing you in the direction of what the author believes to be the "most effective" builds rather than letting you decide for yourself. Ar, well, I find it irritating, anyway.
