More Billy

I received my copy of "25 Years of Taggart" a couple of days ago. There's a section on the various actors who have played guest roles over the years, including our own Billy Boyd. I finally managed to get that paragraph scanned, so here it is for your delectation:

Billy Boyd
"Dead Man's Chest" (1996) by Rick Maher

In one of the more extraordinary guest-star performances, Billy Boyd played Jamie, DS Jackie Reid's autistic cousin, in a yarn about pirates, smuggling and a yearning for high adventure.

It was Boyd's first credited television appearance following drama school, and would help launch him on an extraordinary career. Just three years later he was cast in Lord of the Rings as Pippin Took, the hobbit, and the rest is cinematic history.

Incidentally, "Dead Man's Chest" wasn't the only time Billy appeared in the programme. "While I was still at drama school, I was asked to be an extra to kiss a girl on a bridge," he revealed. "It was me and Jenny Green and it was one of the best kisses of my life." Sadly, fans will be disappointed to learn that even Billy can't remember the name of the episode.

[NB: we now know the name of the other episode - it was "Devil's Advocate".]
