OMG! The Beecake concert was fantastic - I went to the Hotel Cafe with
sassywitch and we were a little worried when we got to the venue and found the line snaking halfway around the building. We wondered if we ought to have gone earlier, but actually we were very lucky, because as we were waiting, Billy and Ali drove up past us in a silver 4WD, and then we got to see Billy walking down from the car park to the entrance with baby Jack on his shoulder. The baby is absolutely beautiful - blond and bonny - and Billy looked adorable with him.
We started out at the back of the venue but worked our way forward during the break after the previous group had finished, and we ended up in the first row standing behind the tables, directly in front of the band. They took a while to set up, but then played beyond midnight. It was a great selection of songs - Rip It Up and Soul Swimming from the website, plus Drunk from WWS, followed by Pour My wine, and Hammer to Fall by Queen (yay!!) and some others that I don't remember but I wish I did because they were all fantastic. I just hope that some of them make the CD. Rick threw a few plectrums into the crowd - they were pounced on with squee. Billy J was in superb form and John did a great job but I didn't see much of him as Billy hid him from view. Billy B was, of course, brilliant. There was a bit of banter (the American girls beside me apparently couldn't understand a word), and a bit of heckling from a guy behind us (which Sassy thinks was Viggo).
I'm glad the fangirls were pretty well-behaved on the whole. I said to Sassy before the band started that if anyone threw underwear on the stage they'd be off my friends list before morning, but luckily that wasn't necessary. Someone gave them four pink roses before they started playing, and Rick put them up in front of one of the Marshall amps.
After the concert we caught sight of Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom in the audience - a couple of Japanese girls asked Orli for a photograph, so he said "All right, but only one," and they both turned and gave their cameras to us, so we took the shots and Orli thanked us. So I can honestly say that I took Orli's photo even though I don't have the evidence.
(And in spite of the time on the entry, it's actually 0130 on Saturday 10th March)
And I think the fangirls have killed MySpace - I can't get into the band's page at all.
