I'm writing again!
When I was pottering about yesterday, tidying up "The Golden Wood" for posting to AO3, I started reading through all the fragments and chapters of Pride, Passion and Prejudice that I had abandoned more than ten years ago. After writing the two standalones ("Hot Summer Night" and "Winter Fires") in 2003, I embarked on a huge, meandering two-millenium rollercoaster saga about Legolas and Haldir. The beginning was fine and the end was fine, but I got into an unholy mess in the middle and so it languished for a decade. However, on going through it all again I found away to cut out almost all the troubling issues and mould it into a more-or-less coherent narrative. It's never going to be a novel, precisely, but the individual stories should make up a reasonable arc. I estimate the whole thing will be around 80,000 words when finished.
I'm still having problems with chapter 4 of "Therewith Instantly", but something occurred to me this morning that might just be the change I needed to make -- it's going to require a lot of work but I can see my way forward now, and I feel much more settled in my stomach which is always a good thing when it comes to writing.
