So, yeah, we had a hurricane. Or tropical storm now. With no trains or buses, everything canceled, and Jumper One in the prime spot on the street carefully calculated to be at the furthest point from every tree, there was no place to go. I spent the day mostly reading, playing tunes and organizing my sheet music. Also took a walk down to the marina, as it didn't start raining till about 4:00.
I had my flashlight and candles all ready, tho I decided to fill all the water bottles we had around the house rather than buying cases of bottled water like everyone at the Apocalyptic Supermarket Mob Scene was doing. (with all the water they were buying to get them through the weekend, I can see why they all needed to buy massive amounts of toilet paper too. Guess I don't need to lecture anyone on hydration - sheesh.) A friend was wondering whether the hurricane was being sponsored by Aquafina, or Poland Spring.
Was only hoping the power and cable would last through Doctor Who. It did, and I even had
arrietty on hand to explain everything to me. Stayed up then till about 2, watching the weather people in the matching jackets on the beaches yelling into the wind, and waited for the power to go out. It didn't, so I went to bed. I sort of half slept most of the night, waiting so I could jump up and switch off the AC if the power went. It was still on when I got up in the morning tho. And the cable, and the internets :)
Took a walk a couple hours ago back down to the marina, which looks pretty much the same as it did yesterday. If there was a storm surge in the bay, it didn't leave any damage behind. The boats are still on the correct side of the highway. I saw one uprooted tree that must have been missed by the tornado last spring, and lots of leaves and small branches, but that's about it. We're still getting strong wind gusts, but there's some blue sky coming behind the clouds.
Work felt the need to give me an automated phone call to tell me our offices will be open tomorrow. Doesn't matter to me, either way my patients will be calling me at the crack of dawn to make sure I'm coming - lol. Doesn't look like driving or parking in my area will be too much of a problem tho.
And, in case any of you were wondering what's the best way to get from Queens to the Bronx - swimming and flying are not recommended.
