[for Dinah]

dated March 13thI send Helen on home, telling her I'll lock up tonight. Probably she wind up at my place, but it's easier on me, her whole being with other people thing if we don't leave together. Stings less if she decides to head somewhere else. Not that she does it all that much, but I'd kinda rather not see it happening before my eyes ( Read more... )

Dinah's usual reaction to a strange man calling out her name in the dark is to prepare for a fight. Nine times out of ten it's going to be some asshole, possibly drunk, who's decided he's a big tough guy and wants to prove it by taking down a League member. Usually a girl he thinks he can beat. Ten times out of ten they end up needing an ambulance.

She reminds herself that since being on the island, the most trouble she's liable to run into is an overly enthusiastic comic book geek. So she just smiles and crosses her arms. "That obvious, huh?"

Well, shit. It is her. I'm grinning like a middle-income kid on Christmas (rich kids get too much shit all the time to appreciate it, and food stamp kids cry on Christmas), 'cos damn.

I run my hand through my hair again - it's getting damned long - and tug the back of my neck kinda sheepish now. But I tip my chin and give her a look, eyebrow up. "Well, you could be one of our dancers, but yeah the outfit kinda gives you away."

Helen'd bust my ass for thinking it, but it's probably a good thing Dinah Lance doesn't want a job. With those legs...DAMN.

...I can't believe I'm talking to the Black Canary and thinking about her working as a dancer. Awww, y'know, I guess it kinda figures. For us geeks, comic books pretty much are porn.

It's far from the first time Dinah's run into a 'fan', but they usually aren't quite so good looking. Still, she highly doubts this guy is from Gotham, or even her universe, and the idea of being completely fictional is still taking some getting used to. "It seems you have me at a bit of a disadvantage," she replies as she comes a bit closer.

Now I know, y'know, how they pull some of it off. She's good, like Grayson. Even though it's gotta be weird as shit to have someone knowing her like that, she doesn't even bat one of those long, gorgeous eyelashes.

I just can't get over how fine she is, a'ight?

Which is why it takes me a few seconds to snap my jaw shut from grinning like a damned fool and offer my hand. "Warrick, Warrick Brown. Las Vegas PD, criminalistics," I tell her, wanting her to know we're on the same side, like creating a bond with someone you're questioning, only different. "Part-owner of the Catscratch Club now."
