Newcastle and Hunter Region have been declared natural disaster zones by the Federal government

It seems we have many natural disasters in this country, and the saying "it never rains, it pours" is exceptionally true in this country.
Of course, after a "100 year drought", torrential rain such as has whipped the East coast of Australia in the past few days will cause flooding. The ground is too dry (baked dry) to absorb the water. And much of the good topsoil is being washed away, too. Its a vicious cycle.
Of course, the death toll of nine (as of today) is horrendous in and of itself.
My prayers go out to the residents of the Hunter region, and the families of those who have lost their lives.
