I like to reminisce with people I don't know...

Ever had a flood of nostalgia triggered by a song you don't know?

So I just downloaded Visage's Fade to Grey.  I am fairly sure the first time I ever heard this song was a week ago.  But it took me right back to 1982.

I didn't have what you would call musical taste in 1982.  Back then I listened to whatever my sister listened to, and as far as I could tell she listened to whatever the girls on the third floor listened to.  The girls on the third floor, whose names now escape me, had their bedroom walls entirely covered with posters of Duran Duran.  I mean entirely.  They also had friends in England who sent them videotapes of Top Of The Pops every few weeks, which they'd invite us up to watch.  Well, when I say us, I mean they would invite Heather, and I would tag along.  I wasn't interested in the music, that came later.  But anything my big sister liked had to be cool, seeing as how she was the coolest person on the planet when I was eight.

All of which means that the soundtrack to my 1982 was composed mostly of New Romantic pop.  And when I hear angsty vocals in an English accent, synthesisers that don't pretend to sound like anything other than synthesisers, and electronic drums that pretend even less, it takes me right back.
