Title: The Mystery
Theme: Mystery
Fandom: Star Driver
Pairing: Sugata/Wako/Takuto
Rating: PG-13 for innuendo?

“Okay, Wako.” The former southern maiden of the island paced back in forth in her own personal room in the Shindo home trying her best to remember to breath in and out in as close to a normal rate as she could possibly muster. “It’s not the end of the world.” Of course she could tell herself that over and over again, but she wasn’t entirely sure she could actually convince herself that this was the case. It may not be the end of the world, but she was pretty sure it was at least going to cause some problems. She had no idea how the boys were going to take it. “You just need to tell them. We’ll count one, two, three and then just say it.” Sugata would probably take it pretty well. At least it would look like Sugata took it pretty well. Takuto, on the other hand? Who knows how Takuto would take it.

Actually, it wasn’t even the news itself that she was afraid of delivering. It was the inevitable question that would follow the news that worried her. Because they would probably want to know the answer- and she didn’t quite have the answer they would be looking for. Oh this was bad.

“Everything okay?” The voice nearly caused her to jump clean out of her skin. Sheesh! As if her pulse hadn’t already been running quickly enough.

“Sugata!” You don’t just stand in people’s doorways like that! You nearly gave me a heart attack, you know. “ Only the object that was currently enclosed in her hand- and object that she wasn’t quite ready for her sudden companion to see yet- kept her from pointing at him in the most menacing way she could manage in order to drive her point home. Never mind the fact that this was actually Sugata’s house to begin with and she and Takuto had only moved in a couple years prior to that very moment. “How long have you been standing there anyway, exactly?”

The corner of Sugata’s lips drew back just enough to be one of those smirks that you had to know him well enough to catch. Fortunately- or unfortunately for this particular situation; she couldn’t quite decide which it was at that particular moment- she knew him far better than most people and could see it clear on his face as if he were wearing a full-scale slasher smile. “Long enough to know that you have something important to tell us- and it’s going to take you a count of three to finally spit it out.”

“Hm? What are we spitting out?” Unmistakable flame-red hair popped up over Sugata’s shoulder in the narrow space between his neck and the door frame. Wako did her best to try and stay calm. She had tried to convince herself that she was ready for this. But now confronted with it? She wasn’t quite sure at all. “Wako doesn’t spit anything out. That’s really unlike her, Sugata.” She could feel the deep blush come over her face before she really had any time to rationalize his remark into what he meant- which would be her admitted love of all things edible- from the horrible position in the gutter her mind had initially taken it to.
“Takuto!” She protested.

“No, no. Wako has something she needs to tell us.” Sugata stepped aside allowing room in the door frame for Takuto to comfortably stand- rather than having him crowd his personal space. A couple of years ago? Wako probably would have dissolved into some heated man-on-man fantasy as a result of their closeness. Nowadays? She really didn’t have to imagine anything. She had seen enough of it in real life not to have to daydream anymore.

Not that it made it any less exciting, mind you.

“Oh?” Takuto tilted his head. “What is it, Wako?”

“Yes, Wako. Why don’t you tell us?” If the grin before hadn’t been a slasher smile, the eerie calm, quiet smile plastered across his face was close enough. “It can’t be that bad.” Oh he knew. Of course Sugata knew. But he wasn’t going to make her say it anyway. The look in his eyes as he met hers told her exactly what was going on. He just wanted to hear it from her. The jerk.

“I’m…” She broke off into mumbling and averted her eyes. Classy, she thought. At the same time, she couldn’t help herself.

“What was that? I didn’t quite catch it.” He had his eyes closed. Oh he was being so smug about this. She kinda wanted to smack him. Okay, so she really wanted to smack him.

“I’m pregnant, guys. As in I am going to have a baby. “ There. She had said it. Now she had to sit back and wait for that inevitable question. Wako looked at both of their faces closely as they processed the news. Sugata’s smirk changed a bit- less snarky and more…genuinely happy? Again, it was one of those incredibly subtle changes that only someone like Takuto or herself would possibly be able to catch.
Takuto, on the other hand, broke into laughter, rushed towards her and gave her a very enthusiastic- and very energetic- hug. In fact, he lifted her up off her feet and even twirled her around in his excitement before leaning in to kiss her affectionately.

“So I suppose this one gets to be a Shindo, right?” The redhead called over his shoulder to the quieter man still standing in the doorway looking at her.

“You’re okay with that?” Sugata asked calmly.

“Well, I can always claim the next one, right?” The smirk grew.

“I suppose that’s fair. What do you think, Wako?”

She stood there in confusion for a moment- looking from Sugata to Takuto and then back again- trying to process everything that was happening as they sat there discussing the naming of their present and potentially future children. What was oddest to her was that the question never came.

“And it doesn’t occur to either of you to wonder…”

“Wonder what, Wako?” Takuto chimed in while she trailed off.

“Well….Whose…it is?” She stared at both of them incredulously. Didn’t they care to know? She thought it was some basic part of biology for a male to want to know if that was his offspring growing in the womb of his mate. Although, admittedly, most males in the animal world didn’t share his mate with another male. They were kind of strange like that.

Sugata chuckled. “Well, I suppose if he or she has red idiot hair, we’ll know who the father is. Otherwise, I don’t see why we’d start caring now.”

Wako sighed with relief and finally let a smile creep over her own face to mirror that of her boys.

Heh. We’re so odd.
