Serial killer aspect: A common sniper phrase is "All you feel is the recoil." Not that they're sociopathic, but in their minds each target is fully justified. They do tend to be loners, but that may have more to do with the way the people around them regard their profession. It's also because the job demands exceptional patience.
Mad genius/supervillain aspect: The math these guys have to know (intimately) is unreal. Ballistics, trajectories, meteorology, minutes of angle, range finding. PDAs and calculators are part of the standard gear and many have ballistics tables taped to the stocks of their rifles. The infiltration/exfiltration and stealth parts of the job are practically a super power. A ghillie suit can take up to 40 hours to construct.
Wait. You'd have to be patient...and quiet. Never mind. Besides, they're held to a higher physical standard and do more PT than average active duty infantry.
